💎 The Swiftie Scoop No. 3: I'm going out tonight
The Chiefs' game, the US Open, the VMAs and more!
Dear Reader,
“Best believe I’m still bejeweled…”
Taylor may be on break from the Eras Tour, but she can still make the whole place shimmer! Seemingly in her “Bejeweled” era, Taylor has been out and about this month wearing iconic outfits, having fun, and making history. So it felt like the perfect time to bring back The Swiftie Scoop - a series within this Dear Reader Newsletter that I started at the beginning of the year, focusing on recent Taylor Swift news and happenings. There’s been a lot lately, so let’s dive into this third edition of The Swiftie Scoop!
News & highlights covered in this newsletter:
🏈 First Chiefs Game of the Season
🍕 Pizza Date in Brooklyn
💐 Wedding Date in NYC
🎾 The US Open
🏆 Taylor Making History at the VMAs
❓ Can I Ask You a Question?
First Chiefs Game of the Season
Taylor kicked off September supporting Travis at his first Chiefs game of the season against the Baltimore Ravels. We knew it was likely Taylor could show up - that’s why I included all of the Chiefs’ games in my September Swiftie Dates calendar! And show up she did, in Style (Taylor’s Version, ofc). Taylor sat in a suite in Arrowhead Stadium, alongside Travis’ parents and others.
I loved her double denim outfit, and of course the second Swifties saw her tall red boots, Reputation (Taylor’s Version) clowning ensued. Taylor wore very similar red boots in the “Look What You Made Me Do” music video - could it have been an Easter Egg?
I didn’t actually tune into the game (it was my last day in London before flying back to the US), but I am happy to report that the Chiefs won, 27-20!
Pizza Date in Brooklyn
The very next evening, Taylor and Travis were spotted in Brooklyn after going out on a pizza date night. Taylor’s all black outfit certainly didn’t help the Reputation (Taylor’s Version) rumors and clowning, but I absolutely loved the look!
Wedding Date in NYC

On Saturday, September 7th, Taylor and Travis were seen attending the wedding of supermodel and singer-songwriter Karen Elson at Electric Lady Studios in New York. Taylor wore this stunning ivory, floral Zimmermann dress (yes, I looked it up 😋), and I am in love with it! It was a softer look than her outfits of the previous two nights, and perfect for an end-of-summer wedding. With Travis sporting all black and slicked back hair, I definitely felt the Grease vibes.
The US Open
For the fourth day in a row we got to see Taylor and Travis out, this time at the U.S. Open men’s final. The two were caught lip-singing to The Darkness’ song “I Believe in a Thing Called Love”. Taylor is known for singing and dancing along to other people’s songs, particularly at awards shows - the VMAs set up an audience cam called “Audience POV (Taylor’s Version)” for a reason 😋 But I loved seeing Travis join in with her.
What made the moment even more cool was when The Darkness’ singer Justin Hawkins shared this TikTok video, with the caption, “It was a lovely surprise waking up to a video of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce singing along to ‘I believe in a Thing Called Love’. Thanks guys!”. In the video he shared about attending the Eras Tour in Zurich with his family earlier this year, and the handwritten note Taylor left for him in the VIP tent.
Finally, to bring the lip-singing full circle, Taylor Swift did a series of ads with Apple Music years ago (probably my fav ad campaign ever), lip-singing and dancing to hit songs. One of them was, you guessed it, “I Believe in a Thing Called Love”! You can watch the video here.
Taylor Making History at the VMAs

After a busy week of seeing Taylor and Travis out and about, it was wonderful to see Taylor in her element at the VMAs. We didn’t have confirmation that Taylor would attend the VMAs beforehand. But she was nominated for 12 awards and Swifties were wondering if Taylor could walk the red carpet with Travis (she’s never walked a red carpet with a boyfriend before), or even announce Reputation (Taylor’s Version) that night (I wasn’t feeling it, but she did announce Midnights at the VMAs in 2022). Travis had to get back to football practice, and there wasn’t a Rep TV announcement either. But it was still an incredible evening!
Taylor walked the red carpet in a plaid and tartan dress that, to me, seemed to signal that we’re still firmly in The Tortured Poets Department era. Halfway through the show, she changed into a new dress that was also very TTPD coded. It featured a spaceship that both gave “Down Bad” vibes, and fit the space theme of the VMAs and their Moonman awards. Taylor’s After Party look matched her spaceship dress, but in a three-piece set. I loved all of her outfits - what did you think?!
In terms of awards, Taylor left the night making history. She won 7 VMAs on the night, for a total of 30 VMA wins across her career (see the full list here). That ties with Beyonce for overall VMA wins and surpasses Beyonce’s 26 wins as a solo artist. AND, in Taylor’s acceptance speech for the “Video of the Year” Award, Taylor gave Travis the sweetest shoutout that had me practically on the floor 🥹 Here’s a full length video of her speech. I also shared a number of highlights from the show on my stories that you can watch here (under story highlight “2024 VMAs”).
That’s a wrap on another Swiftie Scoop issue of Dear Reader! I’ve left some questions below as usual, and I always love reading your comments. Until next time…
I can still make the whole place shimmer,

I really liked her and Travis singing I believe in a thing called love!
Of the VMAs outfits, I liked the tartan one, but the other two weren't to my taste (too much going on, it made me think of wall tapestries :P). And I thought it was sweet when she handed one of the VMAs to Post and said "you have i
