Dear Reader,
On the 13th Day of Swiftmas, Dear Reader sent to me…13 Unforgettable Eras Tour mashups! 🎤✨
Happy 13th day of Swiftmas, and Happy Birthday to Taylor Swift! 🎉 To mark this special day, I’m sharing the final newsletter of this series with all Dear Reader subscribers.
I don’t know about you, but ever since the Eras Tour ended on December 8th, I’ve definitely felt the post-tour blues. One of the best remedies? Reliving the incredible memories! I’ve been working on fun ways to recap the tour, and surprise song mashups are at the top of my list.
While compiling all of Taylor’s surprise songs (shared on IG!) I couldn’t help but reflect on my favorite mashups of the tour. Narrowing it down to 13 was no easy task, but here are the ones - in order of performance - that currently stand out most to me. Let me know your favorites too!
1. "Out of the Woods" x "Is It Over Now?"
Date: November 10, 2023
City: Buenos Aires N2
Instrument: Guitar
Why It’s a Favorite: The mashup that started it all! Perfectly blending two favorite Taylor Swift song into one epic mashup, the crowd went insane when Taylor performed this in Buenos Aires. It also completely changed the Acoustic Set, because now mashups were on the table!
2. "Getaway Car" x "august" x "The Other Side of the Door"
Date: February 17, 2024
City: Melbourne N2
Instrument: Guitar
Why It’s a Favorite: This mashup again changed up the mashup game, because Taylor had never done a triple before. It’s still one of my favorite combinations of songs, where her storytelling hit peak levels.
3. "evermore" x "Clean"
Date: March 3, 2024
City: Singapore N2
Instrument: Piano
Why It’s a Favorite: The last (and only) time I’ve done a ranking of Taylor Swift’s complete discography, “evermore” came in as my number 1 song, and “Clean” right behind it at number 2. So the combination of these two together was my *dream*. I shared my reaction, and to be honest, I still don’t feel like I’ve recovered.
4. "All of the Girls You Loved Before" x "Crazier"
Date: June 8, 2024
City: Edinburgh N2
Instrument: Piano
Why It’s a Favorite: I think my jaw is still on the floor from the moment Taylor began singing “Crazier”. Taylor hadn’t sang too many surprise songs outside of her studio albums, so it didn’t get much crazier than this nostalgic fan favorite all the way back from Hannah Montana: The Movie (which released in 2009). Here’s to hoping it was an Easter Egg and that we could hear it again as a vault track on Taylor Swift (Taylor’s Version) - whenever Taylor decides to release it.
5. "Hits Different" x "Death by a Thousand Cuts"
Date: June 21, 2024
City: London N1
Instrument: Guitar
Why It’s a Favorite: Taylor herself called these two of her favorite bridges - so putting them together into a mega-bridge was so epic! I had so much fun singing along while watching over livestream, so I can’t imagine how amazing it must’ve been to be in the crowd for this one.
6. "Mary’s Song" x "So High School" x "Everything Has Changed"
Date: July 6, 2024
City: Amsterdam N3
Instrument: Guitar
Why It’s a Favorite: My Tayvis-loving heart melted at this love-filled mashup that finally gave us the long-awaited “Mary’s Song” - “I’ll be 87, you’ll be 89…” 🥹
7. "Everything Has Changed" x "End Game" x "Thinking Out Loud"
Date: August 15, 2024
City: London N4
Instrument: Guitar
Why It’s a Favorite: I had dreamed about witnessing two of my top artists sing together live, so this performance was already special enough. But I just about lost it when Taylor and Ed added one of Ed’s own songs to this triple mashup! Throughout the whole tour, Taylor sang five songs written by other artists, and “Thinking Out Loud” was one of them.
8. "Long Live" x "Change"
Date: August 19, 2024
City: London N7
Instrument: Guitar
Why It’s a Favorite: Any mashup with “Long Live “is automatically a winner. But adding in Taylor’s one-and-only performance of “Change” is what made this mashup so special for me. It truly felt like a fan anthem mashup for the ages.
9. "Espresso" x "Is It Over Now?" x "Please Please Please"
Date: October 26, 2024
City: New Orleans N2
Instrument: Guitar
Why It’s a Favorite: The cleverness of mashing up “espresso” - the song of the summer - with “Is it Over Now?” and it’s 300 takeout coffees was just pure genius. Of course it was also so fun to see Sabrina back on the Eras Tour stage! Plus, Taylor singing “I’m working late, cause I’m a singer” was iconic.
10. "Cassandra" x "mad woman" x "I Did Something Bad"
Date: November 22, 2024
City: Toronto N5
Instrument: Piano
Why It’s a Favorite: The long-awaited “Cassandra” x “mad woman” mashup truly became next-level with the addition of “I Did Something Bad”. It just kept going! And Taylor interwove all three songs together in the most masterful way.
11. "You’re Losing Me" x "How Did It End?"
Date: November 23, 2024
City: Toronto N6
Instrument: Piano
Why It’s a Favorite: This heart-wrenching combination of songs about endings, as the tour itself was coming to an end, felt like a perfect, bittersweet farewell.
12. "Never Grow Up" x "The Best Day"
Date: December 6, 2024
City: Vancouver N1
Instrument: Piano
Why It’s a Favorite: The sweetest combination of songs to dedicate to her family, this mashup felt like a beautiful tribute. I wasn’t expecting Taylor to sing “The Best Day” again after singing it for Mother’s Day in 2023. But she couldn’t have picked a better time and place to sing it again.
13. "Long Live" x "New Year’s Day" x "The Manuscript"
Date: December 8, 2024
City: Vancouver N3
Instrument: Piano
Why It’s a Favorite: This finale mashup left me in tears - it was the perfect encapsulation of sentiments to finish off the Eras Tour.
There are so many more mashups I could’ve added to this list - “evermore” x “Peter” from Toronto N2, any mashup with “The Black Dog” or “exile”, the mashups Taylor did with Gracie - I could go on and on. What were your favorite mashups? I hope reminiscing has brought back some of the magic of the Eras Tour for you.
